treatment for general anxiety disorder?

in a few days i am going to the doctors for a analysis of some sort i guess you can say. i have a hunch i may have general anxiety disorder (GAD) or an anxiety disorder of some sort.
I have many of the symptoms of GAD, i can apear normal in public, but have trouble focusing, relaxing, racing thoughts, chest pains, constant worrying…ect.
i think i have the more mild case of GAD.
I was wondering, what is the treatment for GAD. i researched it on the web to find mixed answers. will I need to go to a counselor.psychologist? will I just be prescribed some prescriptions?…
thanks for your answers.

Your general practitioner can aid you in this. It can range from medications (which work great, been there) to some counseling and lifestyle changes. With all those combined there is a good possibility you can get off the meds all together eventually. Best of luck.

Most likely you will be prescribed medication to get the mild panic attacks under control. It is likely that you doctor will suggest that you attend counseling sessions to get to the source of the anxiety. Treatment works best with a combination of medication and counseling. However, the prescriber of the medication should be a specialist in the field of mental health (i.e. psychiatrist).

    It could possibly be both.

Yes, you are correct. Stress from nursing school and unpleasant roommates can definitely take its toll on your nervous system. This is probably what is going on with you.

But the doctor will assess you, and you will find out for certain.

The common treatment for GAD or excessive worry and stress is medication and/or therapy. They work. Exercise and Yoga are also very beneficial. They calm both the body and mind.

It’s good you’re going to see a doctor and nipping this in the bud.
