Murray (Encyclopedia of Nutritional Supplements, Prima, 1996) believes that the symptoms of depression, obesity, headaches, insomnia, anxiety, hyperactivity, premenstrual syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, and fibromyalgia can be alleviated by taking the amino acid 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan). The body converts 5-HTP into serotonin, a neurotransmitter vital for brain function, and Murray argues that increased serotonin levels mitigate much of the discomfort ociated with the conditions cited above. He devotes major chapters to depression, weight loss, insomnia, and headache, with each following the same format: exploration of the condition and orthodox treatment, review of studies using 5-HTP, and recommendations for therapeutic doses. Personal stories illustrate how patients have benefited from 5-HTP. It is apparent from warnings given throughout the book, however, that use of this natural supplement is not without danger, especially if taken with certain prescription medicines. Yeah it’s worth it. …
Yeah it’s worth it. It shouldn’t be to harmful even if it doesn’t work. In fact it is good for your body:) I’m not to sure serotonin is the ONLY reason people get depressed tho. Try to smile throughout the day, and laugh- even if it is forced, your brain will secrete beneficial products such as endorphins. Good luck!

Three Basic Formula …
Three Basic Formula that worked for me..
1. Exercise (In morning I go to gym and at evening I play soccer for one hour)
2. Take quality suppliments - B-complex, Omega3, Multivitamins, Drink water.
3.Good Sleep - Make strict schedule for bed. Go to sleep by 11 pm.
Try it out. It works.

They do make omega-3 supplements, which (in theory) should be a suitable replacement. Though to be honest I have found vitamin-C to combat the blues effectively.

I took cymbalta for 2 months, and am worse off now than i was before i started taking the pills. Go natural, medications are not worth it.

I struggle with …
I struggle with depression a lot but I don’t for one minute think that antidepressants are a good thing.
I do eat lots of chicken and eggs, but I don’t know that that really has helped much.
Perhaps I should try some 5-HTP suppliments?

Read Explaining colours to a blind man. Not only will it enlighten many as to what living with a mental illness is like, it also gives comfort to those sufferers who think there is no hope and that they are alone.
